To start the Quest, the player must go to the Ruins of Alph and look for the NPC Asa. He will say that he needs the help of an experienced trainer to assist his fellow scientists. Then, he will challenge you to a duel.

He will use a team of 6 Pokémon, from the following options:
| Pokémon | Type | Effective against |
|---|---|---|
After defeating him, the player will receive
125K experience points and will be granted access to the laboratory.
Inside Professor Kohana's laboratory, there are three assistants whom the trainer will need to help in order to prove that they are capable of assisting with the investigations. They are:
Hiroki says he is investigating some psychic Pokémon to assist him in his research. To make his research more robust, he asks the player to show him a catch of a Xatu, as these Pokémon have the ability to predict the future.

After showing the
Xatu catch record, the scientist still needs more information about the Pokémon's behavior, because the Pokédex information alone was not enough. He then says he will make a trap for Xatus and asks for 500
Enchanted Gem and 500
Straw. Upon delivering the items, Hiroki will give the player
10K as a reward. In addition, as the conversation continues, he delivers the
trap and asks the player to meet him at one of the ruins.

After delivering Xatu's trap, simply watch the cutscenes with the NPC and then return to the lab to receive your reward of
100K experience points.
Continuing with the mission to help Professor Kohana's assistants, Noa says that during one of his investigations in Union Cave, he was attacked by some Pokémon and ended up losing his family crest. When he returned to the site, he found only a few footprints, suspecting that some Pokémon had taken the crest.

He gives you a list to defeat 300 Pokémon, any one of the following:

|---|---|---|---|
| Onix | |||
| Sandslash | |||
| Marowak | |||

Riko is an artist fascinated by Smeargle who is using the lab to find inspiration for his drawings. He is interested in learning more about the Pokémon and asks the trainer to catch a
Smeargle.

After catching Smeargle, he asks the trainer to show him Smeargle 2, 3, 4, and 5 in their inventory, and to talk to Asa outside the lab.
Asa invites you to a duel with only these Smeargles that have been shown.

After finishing the tasks with the lab assistants, it's time to talk to the head of research. Kohana says she is coordinating the research with her husband, and that there are more mysteries to be solved in the ruins.

To prove the trainer's worth, she gives them their first challenge, which is the same one they encountered when they began their research in the ruins. Then she gives them a poem and asks them to decipher it by interacting with the objects found inside the ruins.
