Rare Attraction

Rare Attraction represents the accumulated attraction bonus value for rare Pokémon gained by the player from the different available sources.

Rare Attraction is available in the Kanto and Johto regions. In Orre, MT. Silver and Outland, the bonus has no effect. In Nightmare World, it works with a reduced efficiency of 20% on common hunting respawns, while in T1H hunting locations the bonus has a higher efficiency.

Rare Attraction Sources

Different items and effects may grant Rare Attraction.

Having the Shiny Charm will not prevent the use of the new bonus, and using a Borage Flower will also not replace other active bonus sources. The only exception occurs with environmental items that have the same effect, such as Borage Flower, Sacred Essence, and Vileplume Basket.

These items are placed on the ground to generate an effect in a specific area and, because they have the same function, they cannot be used simultaneously. Therefore, only one environmental item with this effect can remain active at a time. As variations of the same benefit, all these items grant 200 Rare Attraction. The Celestial Rune grants 50 Rare Attraction.

How the Accumulation Works

The Rare Attraction values from the different sources are accumulated while their respective bonuses are active. Up to 200 Rare Attraction, the value is normally converted into an appearance bonus, meaning that both the Shiny Charm and an environmental item with 200 Rare Attraction grant a +200% appearance bonus, maintaining the current functionality.

Above 200 Rare Attraction

Above 200 Rare Attraction, an efficiency reduction curve is applied. This means that each new point of Rare Attraction will continue to increase the appearance chance, but will have a proportionally smaller effect than the previous points.

Therefore, accumulating different sources of Rare Attraction will continue to be advantageous. Having three sources will always be better than having two, and two will be better than having only one, but the additional gain will be reduced as the accumulated value increases.

Examples

Some examples of how the system works in practice:

Rare Attraction Combination Appearance Bonus
200 Shiny Charm +200%
250 Shiny Charm + Celestial Rune +240% approximately
400 Shiny Charm + Charm Bonus +310%
400 Shiny Charm + Totem bonus (Borage Flower, Fire Flower, among others) +310%
450 Shiny Charm + Charm Bonus + Celestial Rune +325% approximately

Using only the Shiny Charm, the player will have 200 Rare Attraction, resulting in a +200% appearance bonus.

If the player also activates the Charm Bonus, they will have 400 Rare Attraction. Since part of this value is above 200, the reduction curve will be applied. Therefore, 400 Rare Attraction will result in approximately a +310% appearance bonus. The same principle applies when combining other sources of Rare Attraction.
